The Format
Everyone signs up as an individual. Teams are re-drafted every week, so you'll play with and against everyone by the end of the season. All skill levels are welcome.
The format is called "Level Up." Every team starts at Level 1. Win a game and your team levels up, picking up a handicap. The better you do, the harder it gets. It keeps every match competitive no matter who's on the court.
Each season runs 7 regular season games over 7 weeks, plus 1 week of playoffs. The top teams advance to a single-elimination championship bracket with handicaps removed.
Play runs for about 2 hours each night. Come late or leave early, no problem. We shuffle teams as players come and go.
What to Expect When You Show Up
Check in by 6:30 PM
Show up and get marked present in the system. This is how we know who's playing and can build balanced teams.
Teams and schedules are generated around 6:40
Balanced teams are built fresh each week based on who showed up. You'll get your team assignment and a full schedule of pool play games - usually around 4, sometimes more depending on turnout.
Play your games
Your team starts at Level 1. Win and you level up, gaining a handicap for your next game. Lose and you stay at your current level. Games are played to 21, rally scoring.
Hang out
Grab a drink, meet new people, stick around after games. It's a social league - the volleyball is just the excuse to get together.
The Five Levels
Level 1: Standard Play
Standard play, occasionally with social icebreaker handicaps (learning teammates' names, high-fives).
Level 2: Mild Restrictions
Mild restrictions like "all sets must be bump sets" or calling "mine" before touches.

Level 4: Tough Restrictions
Tough restrictions including underhand serves or no blocking at the net.
Level 5: Extreme Restrictions
Extreme restrictions like prohibiting jumping or limiting touches to one per possession.
Handicaps rotate weekly to ensure variety.

Why This Format Works
Variety
Random handicaps and rotating teammates keep every week fresh and unpredictable.
Social
Prevents cliques. You'll play with and against everyone by the end of the season.
Self-Balancing
Stronger teams are handicapped as they win, keeping every match competitive.
Skill Building
Tests fundamental skills when standard techniques become unavailable.
